Nick Reding - Executive Director

In over twenty years as an actor, Nick Reding’s numerous television appearances includes The Bill, Longitude, Artists in Crime, The Monocled Mutineer, Lake of Darkness, The Count of Solar, Henry VI Part III, Richard III, Oscar, A Touch of Frost, Judge John Deed, Murder In Mind, and Silent Witness. His film work includes Croupier, Mister Johnson, The Constant Gardener, Attenborough and Blood Diamond, and his theatre work the Royal National Theatre production of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer prize winning production of Angels In America, and leading roles at the Royal Court. In 2001, Nick spent five months establishing a pediatric HIV/AIDS clinic with Dr Shaffiq Essajee in the public hospital in Mombasa, and as a result created the initial theatre project that grew into Sponsored Arts For Education. Nick now lives in Africa running S.A.F.E.

  Chipo Chung

Chipo Chung was born in Tanzania and grew up in Zimbabwe. She first trained as an actor with the Children's Performing Arts Workshop (CHIPAWO) in Harare, before studying theatre at Yale University and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She now works as a professional actor in London, with theatre credits including The Mayor of Zalamea, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Liverpool Everyman/Playhouse) and Talking to Terrorists (Out of Joint/Royal Court).


Bee Gilbert


Bee Gilbert started her working life as a stage manager at the Royal Shakespeare Company and then became one of London's leading portrait, theatre production and film stills photographers. She has also worked as a script reader for Goldcrest, Film Africa and Laurentic films. As a director of Laurentic films she produced 'The Cement Garden' an adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. She has written three screenplays, two of which are currently in development. In 2002 she worked in Africa as a photographer documenting projects run by the Irish charity GOAL and the first S.A.F.E. tour in Mombasa. She has now launched Anno’s Africa in memory of her son in the Nairobi slums.

TRUSTEES

Dr Michael Brady

Michael Brady trained at Nottingham medical school, and is currently a sexual health/HIV consultant at Kings College Hospital in London, that serves a relatively deprived neighbourhood with some of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the UK. He has been a specialist registrar of GUM/HIV at both the Central Middlesex Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. Michael’s particular interest is the modernization of sexual health and HIV services, increasing access to testing and treating of STI’s and HIV. He has extensive research experience in HIV prevention, HIV transmission and early HIV infection, and has presented his work at many national and international conferences.

Libby Ferguson - Chair

Libby Ferguson received her MA Hons from Cambridge university in 1989 and was called to the bar in 1992. She practiced as a barrister for eight years before taking a sabbatical to launch the charity “Net2Work” which provides computer training to children in the developing world. In 2001 she moved to a US law firm in the City of London. Whilst there she set up a pro-bono legal advice service for disadvantaged minority groups in London’s East End, which won a national award. Libby was born in South Africa and has traveled throughout Africa seeing first hand the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS.

Sabrina Guinness


Sabrina Guinness worked in film production in Los Angeles for many years with such filmmakers as Alan Parker, Martin Bergman, and Nicolas Roeg. Following the riots there in the early 90’s she helped disaffected young gang members address self-esteem and communication issues by organizing acting workshops. On her return to England in 1994 she founded YCTV (Youth Culture Television). This took the concept further and included training in all aspects of the production process. YCTV is supported by the broadcasting industry, government, charitable trusts and individuals. By using a medium young people can relate to, they have been successfully re-engaged with the learning process. YCTV broadcasts daily on a local cable channel. Sabrina is now consulting on other youth/arts initiatives.

Alan Rickman


Alan Rickman’s theatre work includes appearances at the Royal Court, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre as well as in the West End and on Broadway. His film work includes Truly Madly Deeply, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Michael Collins, Love Actually and the Harry Potter series. As a director his film The Winter Guest was selected as an official entry at the Venice Film Festival, winning three major awards. It was also judged best film at the Chicago Film Festival. He is a director of Royal Court Theatre Productions, the UK Foundation For Dance, and he is Vice Chair of Council at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

PATRON

Sir Ian Holm

Ian Holm’s numerous stage appearances include the title roles in Henry V, Richard III and King Lear. He has a long association with Harold Pinter through his roles in The Homecoming, Moonlight, and Landscape. His many films include The Sweet Hereafter, All Quiet On The Western Front, The Fifth Element, Dance With a Stranger, The Madness of King George, Young Winston, Greystoke, Brazil, eXistenZ, Time Bandits and his Oscar nominated and Bafta award winning performance in Chariots of Fire. He is now becoming known to a completely new generation of filmgoers as Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings.
